Kasi Halwa Asia popular and traditional desert in Tamilnadu. Kasi Halwa is made using white pumpkin, ghee and sugar. As per the name Kasi Halwa as nothing related to the town Kashi. This name Kasi Halwa come from Kashi phal which is the Hindi name for white pumpkin are Ash gourd.
This pumpkin is not available in all seasons and when available then try this recipe and it will be very tasty.Most of these pumpkins are made with only a few recipes in which the dessert recipe is made.Kasi Alva is mostly made only during festive seasons. I did this last Diwali. Everyone in our house liked it very much.It tastes sweeter and less sour, especially with the addition of vinegar or lemon juice for a sour taste.
Let's see how to preparing Kasi Halwa
Ingredients
White pumpkin - 2 cups
Ghee - 2 tbsp
Sugar - 3/4 cup
Food colour yellow or orange - few drops
Cashew nuts - 4 to 5
Cardamom - 3
Lemon juice - 4 drops
How to prepared Kasi Halwa
1.This halwa use heavy bottom as it to stir and less sticking. I am using non stick pan. First clean the pumpkin remove the green parts and seeds.
2. Next, grated the cleaned pumpkin.Heat a frying pan and add ghee.When the ghee is hot add the cashew nuts it's turn golden brown take it for another plate.
3.Pumpkin we have grated in it.Cover it with a lid.If you open it after a while the water in the pumpkin will be dry and now we have to add sugar in it.
4.Once the sugar is dissolved add the food coloring and mix well.After a while it will change to the thick consistency.
5.Now add the cardamom powder and add a little lemon juice.Do not add lemon juice if you do not like the sour taste.
6.Mix these together and stir. Add a one tablespoon of ghee again and stir until halwa comes to a consistency.
7.Once the halwa comes to add the roasted cashew nuts we have and mix together.
8.Now halwa ready to serve. Enjoy it. Do this halwa recipe and share your thoughts.
